Caring for & Maintaining Your Floors

To preserve the beauty of your hardwood floor, we recommend you follow these guidelines:
Use a cleaning product recommended by the hardwood manufacturer or a quality product such as Bona® Swedish Formula®, recommended by P.M. Cantin Flooring.
- Always vacuum or sweep to remove dirt and grit prior to cleaning your wood
- Remove spills promptly
- Place mats at exterior doors to trap sand and grit from incoming traffic

- Use area rugs on high-traffic pathways and pivot areas: at the ends of steps, near doorways, etc.
- Install felt pads under all furniture to protect against scratches and indentations
- Maintain the relative humidity in your home between 30% and 50% to avoid damaging contraction or expansion of hardwood flooring (consult the section entitled "Humidity and Your Hardwood Floor")
Avoid rubber-backed or non-ventilated rugs. Periodically check for wear.
Do not let sand, dirt or grit build up. They can act like sandpaper and actually abrade, dull and scratch the floor finish.
Never mop a wood floor. Even in small amounts, water can cause your wood floor to swell, resulting in a damaged finish or, worse, unsightly permanent stains in the wood
Avoid walking on wood floors in high heels. They can damage both the finish and the hardwood.
Keep pets’ claws properly trimmed to avoid excessive scratches and gouges.
Never use wax, oil soap or other household cleaners on your polyurethane finished wood floor. The use of these products can dull today's floor finishes and make refinishing difficult.
